Beechmont Story

The child stopped, turned and smiled. Below him, the Numinbah Valley shone in the early morning sunlight, still swathed in a misty, white blanket of cloud. The boy threw down his sachet of school books and sat near an old Crows Ash tree. 3 black cockatoos broke his reverie and he laughed at their noisy squabbling. He spied the eagles circling Lamington and wished he could fly over his home in the valley below and soar upwards over Ships' Stern just like the eagles. The boy picked up his sachet and walked happily towards the school house on the Beechmont mountaintop...

The young couple sipped their chilled champagne and watched the black cockatoos noisily devour their breakfast of pinecones. Below them, an old man sat beneath the tree and fed little wallabies with chunks of stale bread which he took from a battered leather sachet. The old man's eyes were watching gaily coloured hang gliders slice through his valley. He turned, smiled at the young ones and pointed. There, high above the hang gliders, and close to the Ships' Stern, Lamington, 2 eagles whirled in the morning air.

The old man has gone now, but the champagne is chilled, the wallabies and cockatoos still watch the mists and cloud rising and rolling through the valley; still there; high above the multi coloured gliders, the descendents of the little boy's eagles effortlessly patrol the skies.
